Principal Message: Dear Parents, Guardians and Students, As we begin to prepare for the 2018-2019 academic school year I would like to provide you with some information that will help you start the year. This will be the first of two summer newsletters to the community. This newsletter contains several live links and videos. You will also find important dates, tips on improved communication, and school updates. We ask that you look at our newsletter closely and complete any necessary forms as soon as possible. Social media and a plethora of communication outlets are embedded in our website. Several twitter accounts, Facebook and online blogs have information and current school happenings in them. We also ask that you update your emails on the parent portal. We hope that families already have Freshmen Orientation, Meet the Teacher Night, Homecoming Weekend and Marching Band Home Show marked on their calendars. We love to have the support of our community and I am certain our students do as well! Please watch for School Council dates and information in the next month or so as we will need interested parents serving on our Council. Becoming a member of our Council serves as an outlet to respectfully voice concerns and ideas to improve our learning community. Lastly, I would like to wish all of you a happy and relaxing summer and eagerly await students and parents back to school. Each year provides us with an opportunity to improve ourselves and the experiences we face. Here’s to a new school year! CHARGER STRONG. In the spirit of utilizing technology to gather data and make life easier for all, I have created electronic signature forms for parents and students to complete. Students and parents are asked to complete all forms using the live links in this DOCUMENT.Chromebook Roll-Out WorkshopTo better serve our community, all BMRHS students are issued Chromebooks. The implementation of a 1:1 program creates a learning environment where students have continuous access to technology, leading to increased academic achievement. BMRSD's commitment to continued research and review by administrators, teachers, and support for families will extend to professional development and workshops. We ask ALL FRESHMEN AND NEW STUDENTS as well as PARENTS/GUARDIANS to attend a 1:1 Chromebook workshop held on July 25th or August 8th (9:00-10:00am) in the high school library. Students/guardians who cannot make this workshop will be issued a Chromebook during the first week of school. We will share the following: *Vision and Beliefs about Learning *Chromebook as a Learning Tool *Safety and Proper Care *Required parent/students forms *Usability of Chromebooks, APPS, and Google features Note Chromebooks cannot be picked up unless the Program Consent / Participation Form has been completed. Check out grades, assignments, etc... Let me highlight a few for you: GOOGLE CLASSROOM Click here to learn more on parent access to google classroom! X2 PARENT PORTALDO you know that students/parents/guardians have access to a student information system that has many features including attendance, schedules, and assessments? "X2 - Aspen" is an on-line application that has the capability of allowing parents and students to log on and view various modules within the X2 database. Once you create an account (which many of you have already been using since your son/daughter entered the middle school) you will be more informed of your daughter/son's progress in school. Getting started with X2 - Aspen Parent/Student Portal.
*Please contact Jill Rondeau ([email protected]) to sign up. *Portal Log-In Website Training Videos: There are a number of videos (under five minutes) you can watch to get an overview of what the Family and Student portals have to offer. Student Portal Overview Parent Portal Overview Checking Grades Emailing Teachers I hope the above information is helpful to you. X2 is a valuable tool which will allow us to increase communication among parents, students, teachers, and administrators. Potential Back to School Shopping List:Hello Students/Parents: Several of you (or your parents) have requested a school supply list. Due to the nature of a high school schedule and various assigned teachers the high school does not have a formal list that we issue to families. We do have an informal list in case you are eager to purchase items prior to the first day of school. Please realize that teachers will provide items needed for specific courses during the first days of school. Potential Supply list (Freshmen) General Supplies: Highlighters, Pens, Pencils, Notebooks, Looseleaf, Box of Tissues, CHROMEBOOK CASE Math: All advanced and honors students will need a graphing calculator. We recommend a TI-83 or TI-84. Either one is fine. If students choose to rent one from us, the cost is $30 for the year. If students qualify for free or reduced lunch there is no rental cost for calculators. Science: Pens, Pencils, Notebook or 3 ring binder for Science work only, and a 5 function calculator. Foreign Language: 3 ring binder (1” hard or flex) required with dividers and loose leaf paper for Spanish only, composition notebook for journal writing (not spiral), pens/pencils, colored pens for editing Link for best Chromebook cases
